Hotels and condos line this 35 mile stretch of beaches. However, there are many public beaches that provide lifeguards and bathroom facilities. From October to April Makaha Beach Park is slammed with intense waves. This makes Makaha Beach Park a popular spot for surfers and the home of Buffalo’s Big Board Surf Classic. Because of the strong currents, it’s best to visit this mile long beach in the summer when the waves are smaller. At this time, divers can find an area of big fish and warm waters to explore. Lifeguards are on duty and showers and restrooms are provided.

Kapalua, once voted the best beach in the world, is certainly one of the best in Hawaii. Sheltered by two lava points which produce calm, warm waters, this crescent shaped bay is great for families with kids – with the softest sand and excellent snorkelling, easy for beginners. There is also a watersports centre, lifeguards and some excellent resort hotels nearby.
