Hotels and condos line this 35 mile stretch of beaches. However, there are many public beaches that provide lifeguards and bathroom facilities. The beaches become less crowded as you move north and there is a wooden boardwalk that allows you to walk without getting sand in your shoes. Along Collins Avenue is the best place to enjoy warm waters without dealing with the heavy crowds.

Voted by ‘Dr Beach’ as one of his lesser known favourites, this Gulf Coast Panhandle beach is at the centre of a long, wide, 20 mile stretch mixed with dunes and freshwater lakes. The attraction here is the town – an eccentric old southern US beach town, with strong community and great vibes for visitors. There’s plenty for families, as well as wild and rugged walks to neighbouring beach towns.
